Understanding Your Health

A pregnancy test can tell you if you’re pregnant, but it doesn’t provide the full picture or tell you everything you need to know. To make informed choices about your health, you need to know more, like how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is progressing, and where it’s located.

At Haven Health, we offer no-cost, limited OB ultrasounds to patients who receive a positive pregnancy test at our clinic. Please note that we cannot perform an ultrasound if you are actively bleeding, and we will instead provide a medical referral so you can receive additional care.

These scans, performed abdominally or transvaginally, give essential medical information that helps protect your health.

Why an Ultrasound Matters

An ultrasound helps determine three critical details:

  • Viability: Whether the pregnancy is developing and if there’s a detectable heartbeat.
  • Gestational Age: How far along you are, which can affect your available options. For example, medical abortion is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks gestation.
  • Location: Whether the pregnancy is inside the uterus or ectopic (which requires immediate medical attention).

As many as 26% of all pregnancies may end naturally in miscarriage, so this step is vital before making any decisions regarding your pregnancy.

What to Expect

During your appointment, one of our trained nurses will perform the ultrasound in a private and comfortable environment.

If you have a transvaginal ultrasound, a wand-like device called a transducer will be inserted into the vagina. This is often done during early pregnancy to produce the clearest images. If you are a little further along, you will have an abdominal ultrasound. The transducer will be guided over your abdomen.

Afterward, you’ll meet with an advocate who will explain the results, answer your questions, and offer guidance on your next steps. Whether you’re considering parenting, adoption, or want to learn the side effects and risks of abortion procedures, Haven Health is here to ensure you have accurate information every step of the way.

All services are provided at no cost and are offered by professionals who genuinely care about their patients. Schedule your private appointment today to gain the clarity and peace of mind you deserve.
